That's it, folks!
Well, this year turned out to be about as predictable as many feared. We have a new champion, though. Tom Kruc, after nabbing third place a couple of years back, managed to pull out the win this time. Rounding out the top three were a couple of Academy Awards Pool veterans, Andrew McNaughton and Michael Fang.
As always, check back tomorrow for all of the stats and such. Thanks to everybody for participating, congratulations to the winners, and we'll catch you next year! |

There's the buzzer, ladies and gentlemen, and this year's field is thusly finalized!
Not a bad pot for a year with such a late start and only one day with the online form. For those of you who haven't participated before, you now see two new links at the top of the page. The first, labeled "Picks Spreadsheet", is a direct link to an Excel file that contains all of the entrants and their picks. Though ostensibly to leave no question that the picks are on the up and up, its true purpose is to give you a handy little way to follow along during the ceremony. By replacing the Xs at the top with the A-E, depending on the winner of the category (A-J in the case of Best Picture), the spreadsheet automatically totals scores, tiebreakers, and a horde of other statistics that only we care about. Or, alternatively, you can let us do the work. The other link, "Live Updates", is exactly that. While the show's being broadcast, we'll calculate, sort and post the standings on the fly, so you know exactly who's in the lead. When it gets close to the end of the evening you won't be able to see whose remaining picks match up and whose don't to determine where any movement might occur, but it's also less work.
We'll post the winners here immediately after the show (or as immediately as we're able to get the page edited), and then on Monday or Tuesday we'll post a little wrap-up with the full detailed standings as well as some random facts for those who enjoy such obsessive minutae.
Good luck to everybody, enjoy the show, and we'll catch you afterwards! |

Juuuuust about there. We're trying to nail down an issue with one of the forms, and the moment that's taken care of, the picks will be posted. Until then, anybody who wants to sneak in still can. If it isn't straightened out by lunchtime or so, we'll just drop that form and get this show on the road. |

Tick tock, tick tock... about two hours to the official deadline. After that, your entry is at my whim. Once I get around to posting the picks, entry is officially closed. Get those forms in! |

Hot diggity! We're fully operational!
And with a little luck, this is the last major form overhaul we'll have to do for quite some time. In any case, the online form is now open for business, and just in the nick of time. Deadline's tonight (Saturday), so get 'em in, folks! |

The online submission form is still giving us headaches, but we think we have a workaround that we'll implement when we get a little free time later tonight. If you're holding off for the online form, hang in there just a little longer. It should go live late tonight. But either way, we'll update here.
Also, remember that the deadline is tomorrow night, so online form or no, get 'em in! |

Let's get this show on the road!
We're not quite 100% up and running, but we'd better get the ball rolling before we run out of time, here. The Academy Awards Pool is back for its thirteenth year! Those who have participated in the past will know the drill, the biggest change being that there are a whoppingTEN Best Picture nominees this year. But otherwise, the usual rules apply -- $5 in, the pot is split between first, second and third place finishers, and even if you don't win it's a cheap way to make the show a lot more fun. If you've never participated before, the FAQ on the left is a good place to start.
This year, the deadline will be 11:59 PM EST on Saturday, March 6th. As usual, you might be able to sneak an entry in after the deadline if I haven't yet posted the picks spreadsheet, but the only way to guarantee that you're in is to get that form and fee in by the deadline. Of course, this leaves less than a week, so get picking!
Speaking of which, the online form is still broken. We're still working on it and we hope to have it up and running in the next couple of days. But in the interim, as it is every year, the entry form is available for download in Word format, where you can easily mark your picks and simply send it to us via e-mail.
Drop us a line with any questions, check back here for updates, and good luck! |
